How it all started...
At the age of 8, teetering on the brink of no longer believing in the Tooth Fairy, I decided to find out once and for all. That night when I put my tooth into a small pouch under my pillow, I rigged a booby trap for the "Tooth Fairy."
With one end of a ribbon carefully tied around my wrist and the other connected by safety pin to the pouch, I snickered at the sheer brilliance of my plan. When the tooth was yanked out from under the pillow, my arm would surely be pulled along with it, thereby waking me up to catch the culprit in the act. Then I would finally know for sure if the money I coveted came from a nimble fairy or my sneaky mother.
With everything in place I fell asleep easily, only to awaken in dismay! Not because I found out it was my mother (no, that would come later that year), but because as most children do, I slept through the whole thing!
The tooth was gone, money was left in its place, and the ribbon was still intact. Darn... the mystery lived on! But to be honest, I was a little relieved to still be able to keep that glimmer of hope alive -- at least for one more tooth!
So, as an adult, I devised a way to help other parents keep the magic alive for their kids, one tooth at a time. And at the same time, I took heart knowing that with my design kids can enjoy a furry friend by their side whenever they need one -- not just when a tooth is lost. A cuddly confidant (and companion on scary trips to the dentist) is much better than a silly little pouch or a small square pillow with a traditional pocket. And certainly it's better for a parent than fumbling in the dark for a tiny tooth placed willy-nilly under a pillow that can shift during sleep. Two toys for the price of one! Who doesn't love that? It's a win-win situation.
